All of my life I have written “pieces”, words that were significant for me in some way or another, my words, for me. As the years passed, family situations, a friend, a lover, a stranger would inspire me to write another “piece”. Alas, most of these “pieces” have long ago passed into oblivion and I do not wonder about them now.
However, after hearing the hundredth person say “I had that feeling too” or “I get that”, I came to realize the magnitude, the significance and the impact that so many military men and women being deployed to a hostile environment, had not only on myself, but on people, related and not related, to a Soldier. I became flooded with emotions, anticipated and transferred, of the impending challenges for my spouse, the heartaches endured by all the soldiers before him and the fears of those that would follow.
With this realization, I felt compelled to take these “pieces” to the next level in hopes that families, friends and others could find their voice in the pages of this collection. Thus, Realities of a Soldier at War was crafted.
